Land Reclamation

It is the process of creating new land from riverbeds or sea(landfill).

*Empoldering

advantages:)
-the polder can be used for agriculture and other purposes.
-farmers are able to benefit from empoldering as they could control the water supply in their fields.

disadvantages:)
-many labour and money are needed for the building of dykes
-careful land use planning is necessary before embarking on empoldering projects.

*Draining swamps

advantages:)
-more land are available for farmland.

disadvantages:(
-costly to build dykes

*Restoring derelict land

advantages:)
-lakes can be formed
-able to be reclaimed
-can be turned into venues for recreation(fishing pool)

disadvantages:(
-large amount of resources are needed to reclaim the land(such as non-toxic waste,acidic substances such as gypsum)
-expensive as many human labour and resources were required
