Land Clearance

*Deforestation

Advantages:)
-Large areas of forest are cleared and used for other purposes such as agriculture or commercial purposes.
-The forest provide timber that can be made into various products such as paper and furniture for sale.
-The cleared land can be used for agriculture/plantation agriculture purposes such as the rearing of cattles (beefs) which requires a large area of land.

Disadvantages:(
-more land is required for development, resulting in massive deforestation projects.
-deforestation is happening so quickly that by 2005, there were only 9 to 12 million sq km of rainforest remaining.
-extinction of certain animal species due to loss of natural habitats.
-global warming will occured as greenhouse gases are produced during the process.
-decrease in the number of trees and causes decrease in evapotranspiration which will in turn causes a decrease in rainfall.
-causes soil erosion/leaching due to less protective cover for the soil.
-affects the hydrologic cycle.
